ETABS MCP is a free MCP server that lets AI assistants such as Claude, Codex and Cursor read and work with the model open in CSI ETABS on your PC — model, loads, analysis, results and design — with a preview before every risky change.
Run the analysis for Dead, Live and Modal and give me base reactions and the first three periods.
Illustrative session. The assistant works on the model already open in your ETABS.
72 tools in 20 areas, plus the whole ETABS API reflected from the ETABS you use, with typed, risk-checked calls. 183 capabilities are catalogued, each with its state and whether it was verified in a real ETABS.
Stories, grids, objects, sections, materials, loads, cases and combinations, filtered by story, group or selection.
Points, frames, slabs, walls, links, releases, restraints, modifiers, diaphragms, piers and groups; materials and sections.
Load patterns, assigned loads, load cases, combinations and the mass source: set up, assign and remove.
Choose the cases and run the analysis; it is reported finished only when every selected case is. Long runs work in the background.
Reactions, displacements, drifts, frame and shell forces, modal periods and mass ratios, for the cases and combinations you name.
Steel, concrete and composite design: run it and report ratios, messages and members that did not pass.
Read, bulk-edit, import and export ETABS tables, export .e2k and table files, and import them again.
Check the model for modelling problems, save, back up, snapshot and compare revisions, and write reports.
ETABS has no plug-in that can host a server, so ETABS MCP is a program of its own: your AI assistant starts it, and it attaches to the ETABS already open and calls the ETABS API — the one installed with your ETABS, loaded when it runs.
With several ETABS windows open, the assistant asks which one you mean — it never guesses. Values are in the model's units unless a call names others, and every result states its units.
ETABS MCP has no public release yet. It will be published here as one release; this page then shows the download and the install steps by itself.
etabs-mcp.exe --doctor checks ETABS, its API and your AI clientsetabs-mcp.exe --setup all connects every installed AI clientetabs-mcp.exe --setup all configures every installed client below; --setup <client> does one. The workflow skills are also served as MCP prompts, so clients without skill support still get them.
Tested with ETABS 23: Claude Code and a plain HTTP MCP client (http://localhost:48886/mcp). The others are configured in each client's documented format but were not yet run end to end.
Cloud AIs in the browser need a remote MCP address. ETABS MCP serves your own PC only (stdio, or HTTP on localhost) — by design, so the model never leaves the PC.
An engineering model needs correctness and a trail more than speed. Every change is checked before and after it is made.
Changes accept a dry run, so the assistant can show what would change before it does.
Deleting, unlocking results, a new or opened model, applying tables or overwriting files always shows a preview and needs your yes; the confirmation is single-use and bound to that model.
Each change names the model it is meant for and is refused if another model is open — even a same-named file in another folder.
Switch it on in the settings and every tool that changes the model, the application or files is hidden and refused.
Every change reads the affected items back and reports whether it is verified; a failed check is reported, not hidden.
Design codes, combinations and preferences change only when you ask, reported old → new. No UI automation and no code-execution tool.
The saved model is backed up before high-impact steps, and an operation log records every change and preview.
Your model never leaves the PC, and there is no cloud relay. When you sign in, only privacy-filtered AI learning is shared with your team. Logs and backups stay in %APPDATA%\MCPs\EtabsMcp.
A finished analysis or design does not mean the structure is adequate or code-compliant: results are software output for the engineer's review.
A capability counts as verified only after the self-test passed in a real ETABS of that version. Automated tests without ETABS check the server's own logic only.
The live self-test passed (85 of 85); 80 of the 183 capabilities are verified in it.
Every API member ETABS MCP uses is present, but no self-test was run in it.
Supported through the ETABSv1 API, but nothing was tested in them yet.
Not possible through the ETABS API, so not offered: DXF/DWG, IFC, Revit, SAFE and SAP2000 import and export, ETABS's own report writer, display settings, and cancelling a running analysis.
ETABS MCP is a free Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for CSI ETABS, so AI assistants such as Claude, Codex, Cursor and VS Code Copilot can read and work with the ETABS model open on your PC through the ETABS API.
ETABS 17 and later, through the ETABSv1 API. It is verified live in ETABS 23.3.1; ETABS 22.7 is API-checked (every member it uses is present) but was not run; ETABS 17 to 21 are not verified.
Yes. The assistant runs the analysis for the cases you choose and reports it finished only when every selected case reports finished; then it reads base reactions, drifts, modal periods, frame forces and more for the cases and combinations you name.
Not unless you ask. Design codes, combinations, preferences and other engineering assumptions are changed only on request and reported old to new. Design results are software output for the engineer's review, not proof that the structure is adequate.
No. Your model, its names and its values stay on your PC. When you sign in, ETABS MCP shares only what the AI learns about using the tools, with names and numbers removed on the PC and again at the gateway. It has no cloud relay. The AI assistant you connect sees what the tools return, under that assistant's own terms.
Any MCP client. ETABS MCP sets up Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Gemini CLI and OpenAI Codex for you. ChatGPT and claude.ai in the browser are not supported: ETABS MCP serves your own PC only.
Yes. ETABS MCP is free. You need a licensed CSI ETABS 17 or later on Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit).
ETABS MCP has no public release yet. It will be published here as one release, and the download appears on this page by itself once it is out.
